Lost panel doesn’t faze DFW-Paris American Airlines flight

An American Airlines plane bound from DFW Airport to Paris on April 20 lost a panel underneath the plane soon after takeoff, but the pilot, who mistook the cause of the noise for a shifting baggage crate, decided to continue on to Paris. American Airlines officials say that the flight was never in any danger and that the pilot took all the necessary precautions before deciding to continue, including consulting with fellow crew members and technicians on the ground.

You gotta love the phrasing American used in their internal memo about the event: "... a panel departed the A/C (aircraft) on climb out." Dude, it didn't leave of its own accord! It's not like the panel decided, "Ah, I've had enough of this plane -- think I'm going to get off now." It fell off -- no reason to make it any more confusing than it already is.
