Presbyterian Hospital of Plano (PHP) is the first health care facility in Collin County to receive this prestigious honor and the fourth in Texas. It also is the first hospital in parent company Texas Health Resources' 13-member hospital system to achieve this distinction.

"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Presbyterian Hospital of Plano - to have our dedicated team of employees, physicians and volunteers recognized for the exemplary work they do consistently every day," said Philip M. Wentworth, FACHE, PHP president. "Four years ago, we embarked on this journey, determined to raise our levels of patient care throughout the hospital from 'excellent' to 'extraordinary.' Receiving this highly esteemed award is a tribute to the vision and commitment of our entire team."

PHP joins two other 2008 award winners: Central Texas Workforce of Belton and St. David's Healthcare in Austin.

Patterned after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria and process, the Texas Award for Performance Excellence (T.A.P.E.) was established in 1994 as an annual recognition of Texas organizations that have achieved performance excellence and applied outstanding quality principles in their day-to-day operations.

The award is presented to manufacturers, service companies, education organizations, small businesses, health care organizations and public organizations that serve as role models for quality, customer satisfaction, and performance excellence in the state of Texas.

PHP was selected after a rigorous evaluation by an independent board of examiners in seven areas: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; human resource focus; process management; and results. The evaluation process included individual review, team consensus and an on-site visit by teams of examiners.
