2008 Allen election results: Steve Terrell wins re-election as mayor
ALLEN Steve Terrell has been the mayor in Allen since 1997, but that didn't make his re-election bid any easier this time around. Terrell defeated his opponent, Mark Pacheco, by the slim margin of 51.88% to 48.12% of the vote. Of course, Allen is estimated to have a population around 70,000, and just over 3,300 people chose to vote for mayor, so neither one of them appears to have inspired much excitement.
Two seats were up for grabs on the the Allen City Council. Since Pacheco chose to run for mayor this time around, his Place 3 seat was wide open. Richard Buchanan had 14 more votes than Joey Herald (1057-1043), but since that represented only 38% of the vote, the two will have to face off again in a run-off election (another challenger, Ben Ferguson, was far off their pace). In the Place 2 city council race, Ross Obermeyer easily won re-election with 58.73% of the vote, defeating challengers Robert Oake and Tearod L. Robertson.
Two seats were also being challenged on the Allen ISD Board of Trustees. In the Place 6 race, incumbent Louise Master far outdistanced her opponents, John Stephens and Thomas F. Buchanan, earning 66.02% of the vote. In the Place 7 race, Mark Jones also easily won re-election, defeating challenger Sally B. Bonham with 61.46% of the vote.
