LANCASTER Lancaster citizens had plenty to vote on Saturday. Nearly all of the seats on the city council were up for grabs, as were two seats on the Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees, and somebody was going to become the new mayor. In the mayoral race, Marcus Knight will take over for the outgoing Joe Tillotson. Knight defeated challengers Clyde C. Hairston (formerly the councilmember for District 5) and Morris Mosley by garnering 51.51% of the vote.
In the District 2 city council race, Todd Love won election unopposed after challenger Stanley Jaglowski dropped out. In the District 4 race, incumbent James Daniels won re-election over challengers Lisa Bacon and Shawana Harris, grabbing 53.64% of the vote. In the District 5 race, Sue Wyrick will take over for Hairston, defeating challenger Audley Logan Sr., 53.05% to 46.95%. And in the District 6 race, Nina L. Morris was elected over challenger G. Gigi White, 59.88% to 40.12%.
Irene Mejia ran unopposed for the District 4 seat on the Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees, and will thus take the place of the outgoing Sue Mendoza. In the District 5 race, challenger Joe M. Kana narrowly defeated incumbent Shelia R. Stanmore, 52.65% to 47.35%, a difference of just 13 votes.

"Narrowly" is not inaccurate regarding Kana's district 5 victory.
LISD races have had, recently, even narrower margins, however. A 13 vote margin in a 245 vote race is 0.05% That comfortably doubles the percentage margin of 0.02% (9 votes out of 413) in the 2005 race between Nina Mangrum and Marie Elliot.
Russ Johnson filed for re-election but withdrew when challenged by newcomer Cheryl Wright. Wright, like Mejia, was unopposed and the seat will change, er, "hands" in district 7, just like in 4 and 5.
The turnover of three seats on a 7 member board should make the board election of new board officers an interesting spectacle.
