ARLINGTON The Texas Rangers accomplished what many thought impossible Friday night, posting their third straight shutout in a 4-0 victory over the A's in Rangers Ballpark. The Rangers are now 17-20, and have won 10 of their last 14 games following a seven-game losing streak.
The shutout streak is currently at 31 innings, just eight shy of the Rangers franchise record. No American League team had thrown three straight shutouts since 2004.
Rangers starter Scott Feldman pitched his first good game of his young season, going six innings while giving up just two hits. Feldman improved to 1-1 on the season with a 4.07 ERA.
Feldman was followed by Jamey Wright, Joaquín Benoit and C.J. Wilson. Only Wilson, who gave up a pair of hits in the ninth, came anywhere close to spoiling the shutout streak.
The Rangers got all the runs they needed early. Josh Hamilton grounded out in the first, scoring Ian Kinsler: it was Hamilton's 37th RBI, which leads the major leagues. Left fielder Brandon Boggs provided the rest, with a solo home run in the bottom of the second and a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth.
