Attempted freeway bridge jumper in Carrollton charged with murder

— Dallas Police officers received a call about 8:30am Monday to an office building in the 12000 block of Hillcrest Road in Dallas. Ex-husband Brent Douglas Stephens, 38, waited for his ex-wife Denise A. Stephens, 36, to get to work, then attacked her with a bat. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition and has since died. Stephens then went to the intersection of TX-190 and N I-35 in Carrollton and threatened to jump off the freeway. Carrollton police were able to talk him down and transported him to Dallas Police. Stephens is now in jail, charged with murder, and is being held with bail set at $1,000,000.

Teresa Gubbins, says:

the magnitude of this guy's selfishness blows my mind. to be able to beat your wife to death with a baseball bat -- obviously pre-meditated -- but then you can't even muster up the energy to jump off a bridge. so now society is stuck expending loads of time and money to give him what he deserves. what a mess. can't wait to see what his parents are like

On the plus side, he gets to spend whats left of his apparently very miserable life wishing he'd have just gone ahead and jumped.
