Fort Worth to “test effectiveness” of high-visibility stop signs

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (2)

At the intersection of Altamesa Blvd. and Trail Lake Dr. in Fort Worth, city traffic services folks have installed two new stop signs designed to make drivers stand up (on their brakes) and take notice.

The signs are rimmed in flashing red LED lights which cycle about once per second. Since this particular intersection is "known for poor visibility" (fog? The Mist?), the city traffic folks figured this would be a good testbed locality.

What exactly is being tested? Both the durability of the pricey new signs (solar powered, incidentally) and their ability to minimize the number of scofflaw blow-through incidents that occur at the intersection.

As if giving the sign some bling might make folks more inclined to stop and think. (Or at least look both ways.)
