— The Texas Rangers won once again, beating the hapless Mariners 5-2 at Rangers Ballpark. The Rangers have now won 12 of their last 14 games, and are within a single game of .500 on the season.

The Mariners were done in, for the second straight night, by Rangers third baseman Ramón Vázquez. Vázquez went 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBI. Catcher Gerald Laird also had a Mariner-killing day for the second straight night, hitting 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Rangers starter Kason Gabbard had a much safer outing than the last time he faced Seattle, going five and a third inning and giving up just two runs on five hits. He was relieved by Josh Rupe, who pitched one and two-thirds scoreless innings en route to his second win of the season.

Joaquín Benoit pitched a scoreless eighth for his sixth hold of the season, and new closer Eddie Guardado pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save since 2006. Regular closer C.J. Wilson had pitched poorly of late and was probably due a rest.

Todd Rundgren My college roommate and her boyfriend looooved Todd Rundgren. They used to say "Todd is God." A lot. Anyway, he's touring to promote his new album, a rocker called Arena. More info
