Dallas Historical Society to premiere Lost Forts documentary in Fair Park

I bet they had cannons like these at Fort Chadbourne. Heck, maybe they still do.
I bet they had cannons like these at Fort Chadbourne. Heck, maybe they still do.

The Lost Forts: Fort Chadbourne documents an historic Texas fort of the same name established in 1852 to protect settlers heading west from their homes in the civilized East.

The documentary makes its world premiere Thursday evening (May 15) at a special event hosted by the Dallas Historical Society (DHS), at their headquarters in the Great Hall of Fair Park's Hall of State.

A catered reception will kick off the evening at 6 p.m., with live 19th century music on hand to establish the mood. Sterling Bank and Frazer Sutlery are supporting the event, which will include a Q/A session with both filmmaker David Carter and Garland Richards, who actually owns Fort Chadbourne. The status of historic forts in Texas will be a primary topic of discussion.

The event is free for all DHS members, and costs $10 for non-members to attend (please pay at the door). Seating is limited, so advance reservations are recommended: email pam@dallashistory.org to reserve your seat(s).

I had the luck and adventure to go down south and see the old Ft Mckavet, which dates around the same time Ft Worth did, and it is neat seeing how these forts were made and how they have been preserved today, this could be a good exibit, for the kids to go too, I missed this event at the fair, oh well next year. Well it is another year of mothballs for the Hall of State as the trash is to be hauled away from the Fair which takes 6 days, until then, the great State Fair of Texas as it was with Pat Boone in 1957. ...Alex Troup,.. State Fair Mania.
