Dallas elementary students win Earth Day contest
The students were excited about their prizes until an 8-foot pig wearing a toupee came out to hand them out.
Dallas ISD's Onesimo Hernandez Elementary second grade students recently won Current Energy’s Educate Dallas Earth Day 2008 poster contest. The students created a poster on what Earth Day means to them. The school was awarded $1000 from Current Energy for environmental enhancements to the school.
They also received a field trip to the Current Energy store on Knox Street. At the Current Energy store, students learned about energy efficient gadgets and helping the environment and took their picture with the Energy Hog - The Alliance to Save Energy's mascot - which educates students on the importance of energy efficiency.
Current Energy principal partner Joseph Harberg and Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert judged the contest and choose Onesimo Hernandez's submission out of six other posters, also created by DISD elementary school students.
