— The Texas Rangers came close, but no cigar as they lost 5-4 to the Astros Sunday afternoon at Rangers Ballpark. The loss prevented the Rangers from getting their first sweep of the season.

Despite the loss, Texas has now won seven straight series for the first time since 1999, the final year the Rangers won the division title. They also missed the chance to go above .500, and are now 22-23.

Rangers starter Kason Gabbard was roughed up early, pitching just five innings and giving up five runs on nine hits. Gabbard walked three and struck out four, and fell to 1-1 on the season with a 3.12 ERA.

The Rangers bullpen performed admirably, with three relievers combining for four innings of four-hit, scoreless ball. The Rangers were able to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings, but fell short when Michael Young was retired by Houston ace Jose Valverde.

The Rangers got back-to-back home runs in the seventh to put themselves back in the game. Milton Bradley first hit his shot, a two-run blast that also scored Young, right before David Murphy hit his sixth of the year to make it 5-3. Frank Catalanatto doubled in Ian Kinsler in the bottom of the eighth for the final score.
