DFW-area high schools named tops in nation by Newsweek

Dallas' The School for Talented and Gifted ranks #2 on the list -- which is actually a drop from the #1 ranking they received the past two years. Slackers.

The students at the School for the "Talented and Gifted" might as well put on a dunce cap for dropping to #2. Slackers.

Several DFW-area high schools were named to Newsweek's list of the Top 100 American Public High Schools. The School for Talented and Gifted in Dallas was highest on the list, coming in at #2, which is actually a drop as they had come in at #1 for the past two years. Schools were judged according to a ratio devised by Jay Mathews, education writer for the Washington Post, which divides the number of Advanced Placement, Intl. Baccalaureate and/or Cambridge tests taken by all students at a school in 2007 by the number of graduating seniors.

Other DFW-area schools in the top 100 include Dallas' School of Science and Engineering (#4), Highland Park (#15), Irving's North Hills Prep (#18), which is a public school despite not being part of Irving ISD, Fort Worth's Diamond Hill-Jarvis (#53) and Paschal (#88), and Colleyville Heritage (#94).

Hey don't forget W.T. White, my beloved Woodrow Wilson and Hillcrest - and the other two DISD high schools on the list - all placed above schools in Richardson, Plano, McKinney and Frisco.

So Realtors, stop directing buyers to the sticks.
