The Bridge, Dallas' new homeless assistance shelter, opens Tuesday. It will not require users to pay a fee or have treatment, and it'll stay open during the day.
According to a release from the Stewpot of First Presbyterian Church, casework services at the Stewpot will grow its programs and continue to offer vital assistance to the poor and homeless. Along with the city of Dallas and the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance, The Stewpot will serve its first meal in the new facility following today's opening celebration. The Stewpot has been identified as the primary meal-service provider for the Bridge, serving three meals a day, seven days a week.

can we get biz cards with an easy to follow map to give to panhandlers?

Depending upon who funds the biz cards, I'm afraid that map might lead off a bridge rather than to The Bridge.

chasdoo- That's actually not a bad idea. I think especially anyone who frequents downtown would appreciate having information to hand the homeless when they ask for help. Instead of giving them your change, you could actually direct them where to go for the help they need.

Hey where is this place? Until we downtowners get said hand-out cards (PLEASE??) we can at least give directions. Every article I've seen on this opening neglects to give any address or location.

Cards will just end up on the ground like so many of those free papers on every corner. I might suggest street signs pointing the way instead.

Good idea Lisa. It would no doubt cost less than re-naming Industrial.

For those of you wondering what to put on the business cards, The Bridge is on St. Paul and Corsicana.

Industrial should be renamed Bridgeway Blvd.
There, perfect fit.

Wow an intelligent insight found in a blog. Yes indeed why would they fail to mention an address? Maybe they do not want to encourage homelessness, goodness only knows how much our suicidal economic trade policies have done to promote it. huh? Maybe if the government spent more time trying to keep jobs in this country rather than outsourcing the whole economy, there would be fewer homeless to worry about.
