Burleson Fire Department recruits go through agility exam
BURLESON Recruits for the Burleson Fire Department tested their physical stamina Friday in the agility exam.
More than 140 applicants from across the Metroplex, as well as from across Texas, took the written exam on May 3. The top 25 were invited back to participate in the May 16 agility exam.
The agility exam included climbing the ladder truck within three minutes; following a hose line while wearing a blackened-out face mask; carrying a section of hose to the top floor of the drill tower; pulling a section of hose by a rope to the top of the drill tower; hooking up three sections of 1-3/4-inch hose, charging it, and dragging it 75 feet; working with the Kaiser Sled (striking a metal sled along a metal rail to a designated point); and stacking hose on and off the truck. The agility exam is a timed event.
The best candidates from the agility exam will be selected for an oral interview that will be conducted at the end of May or first of June. Six people will be culled from that final group to go through a polygraph, psychological and extensive physical exam.
The Burleson Fire Department has six firefighter positions to fill. These six will be used to staff Fire Station #3, which is expected to open in 2009.
