‘Davey and Goliath’ creator Richard Sutcliffe dies in Dallas
Richard Towne "Dick" Sutcliffe, the creator of the popular Christian-themed claymation show "Davey and Goliath," died on May 11 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas from stroke-related complications.
Davey and Goliath love God and each other
Working with "Gumby" creators Art and Ruth Clokey, Sutcliffe hoped the Sunday-morning show (which ran from 1960 to 1964ish) would provide for an entertaining way to teach children biblical concepts.
Born in Pennsylvania, Sutcliffe had been living in Dallas since 1969—working at Southern Methodist University and the Dallas Chamber of Commerce.
A memorial service is going to be held in the chapel of St. Mark's School of Texas on May 31st at 2 p.m.
