Tyson Summers puts some finishing touches on his mural. The mural is a collaboration between Summers and Jason Barnett.
Five finalists are currently working on their murals in the second phase of Deep Ellum's Re*Cov*Er series. The finalists were announced last Friday, giving the artists one week to complete their murals.
The finalists and mural locations are as follows:
- Tyson Summers at 3003 Commerce Street
- Sergio Garcia, Luke Harnden, Mark Nelson at 2631 Commerce Street
- Matthew Orwig & Jo Skillz at 2612 Commerce Street
- John Gonzales at 2513 Main Street (front side of The Door facing Good Latimer)
- Brian Crawford at 2513 Main Street (backside of The Door facing downtown)
If you're in the area, pop by and check out their progress. The winners will be announced this Saturday at the Prophet Bar with performances by Baby Ruthless and the Happy Bullets and a champagne toast honoring all the artists. Quite awesome for a free event. The 1st place winner gets $1, 000 in prize money, 2nd place $500, and 3rd place $250. The first phase of the competition was last October, with Ronnie Bates of Reel FX taking first place.
