Texas Rangers 10, Minnesota Twins 1
The Texas Rangers righted their ship for one night Tuesday, blowing out the Twins 10-1 in Minnesota. The win snapped Texas' three-game losing streak and improved the Rangers to 23-25.
Rangers starter Sidney Ponson completely dominated the very team that unceremoniously dumped him last season, pitching his first complete game since 2005. Ponson gave up just one run off six hits, walking one and striking out five, while improving his record to 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA.
The Rangers offense came alive in much the same way Minnesota's did the previous night: start off with some huge innings, then follow up with scattered runs here and there. Texas broke open a 0-0 game in the top of the seventh with two home runs and seven runs scored. Micheal Young started the scoring with a solo shot off Nick Blackburn, then the Rangers poured it on with two RBI singles and a three-run home run from leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler.
Only one Ranger was held hitless --designated hitter Milton Bradley-- and he only had a single at-bat. Several other Rangers had multi-hit games, including Josh Hamilton, who went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, and Chris Shelton, who went 3-for-4 with a run.
Right fielder David Murphy went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI doubles, while Gerald Laird went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
