Burleson offers students free animal welfare training
BURLESON The City of Burleson’s animal services division is hosting something special this summer . . . Paw Pals Animal Care Academy.
This is a six-week course (two hours every Saturday) that focuses on fifth grade students. The course is limited to 15 students. The deadline to apply is 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28. The academy will take place June 14-July 26.
This is a free educational program for students who are interested in animal welfare. The sessions will cover bite prevention, animal training, animal grooming, responsible pet ownership, veterinary care and graduation.
Those students who qualify for the academy will be notified by Friday, June 6.
The applications, which require a one-page essay, must be signed by the student’s parent or guardian and turned in by May 25.
Applications may be picked up at the Burleson Animal Shelter at 1695 John Jones Dr. (FM 731 South), 817-447-5426. Shelter hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.
