Pegasus News Week in View: Memorial Day Planning Edition
Happy three-day weekend!
The Colonial Golf Tournament is underway in Fort Worth, while Deep Ellum artists are redecorating their district with murals. As we remember those who have given their lives for our country, we hope you'll share photos and video from your Memorial Day events with us through our Flickr photo pool.
Metro: A pastor at Prestonwood Baptist resigned in disgrace after he was arrested for trying to seduce a teen online. Former Dallas city councilman James Fantroy faces a tough choice: admit guilt or go to jail? Current Dallas council members must decide whether to cut services or raise taxes to cover a $50 million budget gap. The Dallas council and mayor were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of The Bridge, Dallas' new 24-hour homeless assistance center. Fort Worth's council banned the roadside sale of animals. Meanwhile, Minnie explains how a childhood in the tobacco fields helped prepare Frank Ragan to manage McKinney. (P.S. Happy 75th birthday Minnie!)
Screen: Film guy John visited the Landmark Inwood's comfy new auditorium with Alex to discuss Forthcoming Attractions. John, was also a celebrity judge of entries in Saturday's 24 Hour Video Race (link here for information on winning screenings). AFI Dallas had a change in leadership. Alex screened a forthcoming DVD from the director of Heathers. User Bill Holston also submitted his review of The Visitor. Reviews of the newest Indiana Jones sequel and other movies opening Friday (including Errol Morris' new documentary and Mister Lonely) will be online soon.
Stage: Kitchen Dog released the lineup for their New Works Festival. Tony- and Emmy Award-winning actress Tyne Daly will be in town for a reading presented by Echo Theatre. West and Clear and Mark-Brian Sonna reviewed the Fort Worth Opera's Angels in America. MBS also saw the touring production of The Great American Trailer Park Musical in McKinney, while North Dallas Gazette reviewed Seussical.
Food and drink: TG compares iced coffee from McDonald's, Jack In The Box, and Dunkin Donuts. A down-on-his-luck Oak Cliff restaurateur hopes he has better business in the Dallas Arts District. Eagle Mountain Lake will soon have a new eatery with a view. The Law Reviewers visited Pena's Mexican Grill, while Gay List Daily has high praise for neighborhood dive The Pav.
Listen up: Radiohead was here Sunday, and we've got video and pictures if you missed them live. Baboon has opened the vault and re-issued its first recording digitally. Intern Brenna critiqued Goodwin's 2, while intern Ovidio loved The Texas Gypsies' Café du Swing. North Dallas Gazette reports on the Dallas Symphony's African American Festival. Also, classical station WRR has revamped its lineup and will broadcast live from the Fort Worth Opera Festival.
Sports: In this week's Cupcheck, Todd sweetens the bitter pill of losing with the sugary syrup of revisionist history. West and Clear has tips for Colonial fans. The young, streaky Rangers are at it again, while the Cowboys have locked up two important pieces of their puzzle. The Stars' co-GMs aren't going anywhere. The same can't be said of FC Dallas' head coach after their defeat by the L.A. Galaxy. Plus, a local athlete qualified for Olympic trials.
The Biz: ExxonMobil claims it's going gangbusters for green glory in advance of its annual meeting next week. International business legend Herb Kelleher stepped down at Southwest Airlines, while American Airlines announced layoffs, service cuts, and charges for checked baggage. Match.com is expanding to loveless international shores. A poop scooper sold for big bucks, while another business plans to turn poo into power. A Dallas video gambling company was shut down after a state raid. Dallas County Jail awarded its mental health and medical unit design contract to a Dallas architect. Vought also raked in the cash from Cessna.
