More Life Festival celebrates final week with new performing art productions

FORT WORTH The inaugural More Life Festival, a community-wide HIV/AIDS awareness and education event in Fort Worth, announces the schedule for the festival's final week. Fort Worth's More Life Festival (www.morelifetexas.com), the first event of its kind in the United States, is a collaboration of AIDS Outreach Center, the Fort Worth Opera, Samaritan House and Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network and includes more than 45 community partners and 60-plus performances, visual art exhibits, town halls and educational programs.
The More Life Festival's final week includes: the Texas stage premiere of Orpheus and Eurydice presented by the Fort Worth Opera, Testimonies presented by Jubilee Theatre, Cheza.Tunakaa.Tarajia: Dance.Live.Hope presented by Full Proof HIV Ministry, the Fort Worth Opera's last two performances of Angels in America and the final week of Q Cinema's International Film Festival.
More Life week four events include:
- Orpheus and Eurydice presented by the Fort Worth Opera June 1, 7 p.m. at the Scott Theatre. The Texas stage premiere of this beautiful Obie Award-winning song cycle by Ricky Ian Gordon. Call (817) 717-6991 for ticket pricing and reservations.
- Testimonies presented by Jubilee Theatre June 2, 8 p.m. at Jubilee Theatre - Free. True stories of local residents living with HIV/AIDS, performed by Jubilee actors. Seating is first come, first served -- call the Jubilee Box Office at (817) 338-4411 to reserve your seat.
- Fort Worth Opera's Angels in America June 4, 8 p.m. and June 7, 2 p.m. at the Scott Theatre, tickets $17-$52. Opera based on Tony Kushner's Pulitzer-Prize winning play about AIDS (parental discretion advised).
- Q Cinema Film Festival through June 7. Part of Fort Worth's 10th Annual Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival, this 10-day festival showcases the best in gay- and lesbian-themed film, along with live performances, stand-up comedy, theatre and art.
- Ongoing art exhibit at the Fort Worth Central Library - Free. A Host of Angels - a charming exhibit of nearly 100 original pieces of art by Fort Worth ISD elementary and middle school students at the Fort Worth Central Library Gallery and 14 area branch libraries; approximately 20 pieces of the artwork were selected and included in the book Angels at My Door (www.angelsatmydoor.com). Presented by Fort Worth ISD Art Department through June 7.
- Cheza. Tunakaa. Tarajia: Dance. Live. Hope. June 8, 3 p.m. at Baker Chapel AME Church - Free. Program of inspirational and liturgical dance. Presented by Fullproof HIV Ministry, Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts, Baker Chapel AME Church, Psalm 169 Productions and dancers from several local churches.
