One Thirty Productions, in cooperation with the Bath House Cultural Center and the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, proudly announces the opening of the delightful comedy A Texas Romance by Austin playwright Ellsworth Schave on May 28th. Directed by Larry Randolph, Executive Producer of One Thirty Productions, A Texas Romance is the third show in the matinee series that premiered in December at the Bath House Cultural Center. Designed for the theater patron who enjoys a matinee, One Thirty Productions produces light comedies that are “old fashioned” in the sense that they tell a good story and are filled with unforgettable characters. In addition to enjoying quality live theater in the beautiful setting of White Rock Lake, patrons can take a leisurely stroll through the art galleries at the Bath House, and be home long before the late afternoon traffic.
Set in 1928 in a small Texas town, A Texas Romance takes a look at love and life when both were a little simpler. After her husband dies, Daisy Wilson is penniless and has no choice but to move in with her sister Doris and her husband James. Daisy spends her time reading books by F. Scott Fitzgerald and D. H. Lawrence; “dirty books,” according to her sister, Doris, who is not sure about James Joyce’s books since “he doesn’t write in English.” One morning, Garland Steinholden, a “younger man” strolls into the front yard and asks for permission to call on Daisy. Life is never the same again for Daisy or for anyone else in her family for that matter!
The cast is headed by Mary-Margaret Pyeatt as Daisy Wilson, the widow who yearns for a man who will make her life Heaven. Miss Pyeatt, who is well-known to Dallas audiences, is joined by Tristan Vaughn as Garland Steinholden the young man who has loved Daisy from afar for over a year. Gene Raye Price plays Dore Perdue, Daisy’s older Sister who is convinced Daisy has no business seeing a younger man.
A Texas Romance opens May 28th and runs through June 14th. Performances are 1:30 p.m. from Tuesday - Friday. Additional Saturday performances are May 31 and June 14th at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are also available online or by calling 214-532-1709.
