Tampa Bay Rays 5, Texas Rangers 3

The Texas Rangers finally lost a series for the first time in ten tries Wednesday afternoon, losing 5-3 in Tampa. The Rangers remained incapable of moving over the .500 mark, and dropped to 27-28.

The Rangers fell victim to some of the Rays' amazing pitching prowess, as well as giving up a huge inning in the bottom of the fifth. Up 2-1 at that point, Rangers starter Kason Gabbard gave up four runs, including two that were walked in. Gabbard was yanked in the fifth, finishing with five runs given up in just over four innings of work. He walked six while striking out two.

Texas also couldn't get anything going against Rays starter Matt Garza, who mowed down Texas hitters for ten strikeouts over eight innings. Texas hitters combined for a feeble six hits and just a pair of walks against the vaunted Rays pitching machine.

No Ranger hitters had great days, but Milton Bradley did single in two runs in the top of the fourth, improving his season batting average to .327. Normally reliable heavy hitters Josh Hamilton and Brandon Boggs did not fare so well, however. Hamilton, the league leader in RBI, went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, while Brandon Boggs went 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts as well.
