Anime and gaming convention at Sheraton Dallas going for Guinness World Record

3

A-Kon 19 comes to the Sheraton Dallas this weekend, boasting a list of events and guests longer than one could possibly imagine. Unless, of course, you went to A-Kon 18.

Ahh, this takes me back.

Ahh, this takes me back.

On tap for Friday night, after a day full of panels including "How to Play With it and Not Go Blind," "How to Become a Professional Gamer," and "How to Talk to Girls (Age 18+)," is a concert featuring Versailles (art metal out of Japan) and Budo Grape (Japanese Pop... Japop?).

The big event, as far as number go, takes place on Saturday at 1 p.m. Apparently, there is a Guinness World Record on the books for largest gathering of people dressed as games characters. Set in England back in god knows when, the current record is 80 people. You call that a world record number? Can't wait to see England compete in the track and field events this summer. For god's sakes, don't tell them what the current one hundred meter dash record is, they might pass out in a crumpet.

In any case, there are various rules and regulations for the costumes, which you can read about here. My question: Can I go dressed up as one of the paddles from Pong?

Sunday is a little slower, mostly panels and autograph sessions with the bands and professional gamers on site.

Do they allow artistic interpretation? Because I'd love to go as this pacman concept.

Man, Erin, I thought those were the most hilarious fake panels I'd ever read -- until I saw that they were real. Now they're even more hilarious!
