Theater Spotlight of the Week: Christopher Carlos
Interview with Christopher Carlos, Director of Sick
The 10th Annual New Works Festival presented by Kitchen Dog Theater is one of the best theater festivals in town. The headliner this year is Sick, directed by Christopher Carlos, who not only directs and/or stars in many Kitchen Dog shows, but also is the Co-Artistic Director of this amazing theater company along with Tina Parker.
I start off by talking about his career and how he became involved with Kitchen Dog and eventually became Co-Artistic Director. He has been with the company for many years and seen its progress and growth, so I ask what he thinks contributes to its major success.
Since he does act and direct, I ask whether he prefers one over the other.
We discuss Sick as the headliner for the festival, how it was chosen out of 370+ scripts, and what attracted him to it. I ask what he wants the audience to walk away talking or thinking about.
Since he has gotten the opportunity to do some magnificent shows, I ask about his favorite productions and if there are any roles he is still dying to play.
Sick runs from May 30 - June 28. Talk-Backs with the actors and director follow the Sunday matinee performances and pay-what-you-can specials are available to the first 25 patrons on Wednesdays (June 11 and 25) and Thursdays (June 5, 12, 19 and 26). Purchase tickets online or by calling 214-953-1055.
