Argyle and other towns to get new homes thanks to wastewater agreement

The missing link has finally been put into place that will eventually usher in thousands of new homes to Argyle and the surrounding area.

A four-way agreement between the Trinity River Authority and the towns of Argyle, Flower Mound and Northlake to build a regional wastewater system that would serve the proposed Canyon Falls and Belmont developments was approved by the Argyle and Northlake town councils this week.

Under the agreement, all three towns will pay their share of the new sewer line. The Canyon Falls and Belmont developers will foot most of the bill for Argyle and Northlake, including the cost of adding additional capacity in the future, according to Argyle Town Manager Lyle Dresher.

The sewer project will be financed in two phases, with funding paid in advance before the start of each phase.

Phase 1, which is expected to take at least 12 months, includes the design of the system, land acquisition, a lift station and construction of the first interceptor segment. Phase 2 will cover the rest of the sewer line segments.

The TRA Board of Directors is expected to approve the agreement on June 25th and should begin work on the project shortly thereafter.

Canyon Falls will span a total of 1,500 acres in Argyle, Northlake and Flower Mound along FM 1171 between I-35W and U.S. 377. Up to 2,700 homes are proposed, along with retail, office, industrial and multifamily development. Belmont is a 1,000 acre mixed-use, master-planned community planned for the west side of I-35W and FM 407, with as many as 4,000 homes.
