UPDATE: Dan Rather not speaking at Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas on anniversary of JFK assassination
UPDATE: All you HDNet junkies will have to wait for another day -- Rather has canceled:
"Dan Rather has canceled his planned appearance to speak at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza this Saturday, November 22, 2008. Scheduled to speak as part of the Museum’s Impressions of Jack Kennedy series, Rather was to share his experiences covering the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and other major events over the past 50 years. Visitors who had planned to attend the program should note the Museum will still observe the death of the 35th president on the day."
In his first public program at The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza, Dan Rather is set to deliver the keynote address marking the 45th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. On Saturday, November 22 at 8pm, Rather plans to share his experiences covering the assassination and other major events over the past 50 years. The talk is the final event of Impressions of Jack Kennedy – a nighttime series of free public programs featuring speakers who wish to share their personal impressions of the 35th President and his legacy. All Impressions presentations are followed by a question-and-answer session.
Other Impressions events feature Dr. Kenneth Salyer, a young surgeon who briefly tended to President Kennedy at Parkland Hospital the day of the assassination. This is one of the few times Dr. Salyer will speak publicly about that experience since his Warren Commission testimony. He is the founding chairman and director of the International Craniofacial Institute and was the lead physician in the recent separation and reconstructive surgeries of conjoined Egyptian twins Ahmed and Mohamed Ibrahim. Dr. Salyer’s multimedia presentation is set for Tuesday, November 18, at 7pm.
Also speaking for the first time at the Museum is the Reverend William Holmes, who served as minister of Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas in 1963. Outraged by President Kennedy’s assassination, Rev. Holmes decided to deliver a scathing sermon of Dallas’ social and political climate at the time. That sermon sparked national attention and police protection for his family after portions of it aired on the CBS Evening News with Walter Cronkite. Rev. Holmes will redeliver his sermon and talk about the consequences of it, including the death threats he and his family received. He will also cover controversial topics such as stories of Dallas schoolchildren cheering the news of President Kennedy’s assassination. His presentation is scheduled for Thursday, November 20 at 7pm.
Impressions events are complemented by a daytime program series November 17-22. These public programs are educational and also provide opportunities for remembrance about that tragic event in 1963. Daytime presentations are followed by a Q and A session and are free with paid admission to the Museum.

Yes it is close to Kennedy time again, as it was in 1963, that fatefull year,... I recall my folks on Cedar Spring saw the motorcade drive by and then.......it was over with for Dallas...meanwhile my folks came from or one half of the family did from Springfeild Illnois and I heard all about Lincoln, while that shooting took place in Washington D.C, at Fords Theatre in april of 1865, then again, Dan Rather and a great many other news men will be in Dallas for the event including Kent Biffle and so it is again another Kennedy event, until then.....Alex Troup, J.F.K Historian.

Well there goes the SIXTH FLOOR MUSEUM again, with great stuff to see. Thanks Gary Mack, curator, I know you had to have some influence on this event. Dan Rather, awesome, to have him here again and to speak at the museum on the 22nd! Just good stuff and educational for everyone. I have attended many events there including the National Landmark dedication with Nellie Connolly back in 1990's. By the way, Senator Ted Kennedy sent, a sort of "THANK YOU" letter, to the museum, from the Kennedy family, a few years back. Now that justifies and makes the museum complete. Way to go Sixth Floor Museum!
