McKinney Fire Museum gets 1922 fire truck
A 1922 model American LaFrance fire engine, which served McKinney citizens circa 1956, was transported from its former home at the Collin County Farm Museum.
They watched and they waited, McKinney firefighters gazing to the north. Finally, it arrived piggyback on a Roper’s Wrecker Service flatbed, this particular tow truck known affectionately as the "delicate truck" in reference to its precious cargo.
They don’t come more precious than this. A 1922 model American LaFrance fire engine, which served McKinney citizens circa 1956, was transported from its former home at the Collin County Farm Museum to its new home at the McKinney Fire Department Central Fire Station’s Museum on Hwy. 5.
The engine was purchased from its owner in Michigan and brought back by a local collector before finding its way into the museum. This 86-year-old piece, in remarkably complete condition, posed a problem, however: how do you get a non-running antique with a flat tire into the museum? The answer: plenty of firefighter muscle. Firefighters pushed, pulled and cajoled the truck into its current spot looking out a large window onto Hwy. 5.
Enjoy the attached video of the engine making its way into its new home and a bit of the truck’s history straight from MFD Chief Darrell Groves. If you want to see the engine for yourself, take a trip to Central Fire Station. They will be glad to see you.

Even if it were moved, perhaps into Fair Park somewhere, I think it would be a great addition during the Fair.

And it was suppost to be apart of the fair and opened all year, but..someone has to turn the fire on this topic, I spent months back in the 80s on this project, my legacy to the next fireman..until then..A.T.
