Theater Spotlight of the Week: William Earl Ray

Interview with William Earl Ray, Director of Neat

African-American Repertory Theater in DeSoto is about to begin the run of their newest show this week. Neat is a one-woman show being presented by this newer theater company, so it was perfect time to feature the director, William Earl Ray.

We start by discussing his career and how he ended up in Dallas. He talks about what attracted him to AART and its place in the DFW theater community.

He talks about how Neat was chosen, the process to get it produced on a DFW stage, and his attraction to this one-woman show.

I ask the challenges of directing one actor in 43 different characters and how he went about it during rehearsal. He describes what he wants the audience to walk away talking/thinking about, and ends with glowing praise for Regina Washington's performance in this piece.

Neat is a magnificent story about the exquisite real life remembrance of Charlayne’s brain damaged aunt Neat, and the profound change she brought to her life. Neat, with her enormous love, energy, simplicity and magnificent clarity, teaches the young Charlayne what it is to cherish life.

The show previews on for $10 on November 6, and the officially runs from November 7-23. Purchase tickets online or by calling 972-572-0998.
