North Texans buy lots of guns and ammo instead of newspapers
Bucking the national trend of buying lots of newspapers following the U.S. presidential election, a segment of the population (including folks from North Texas) are instead stocking up on guns & ammo, fearful that the new administration will go right to work restricting their right to keep and bear arms. And lots of 'em.
Unsurprisingly, local law enforcement officials "see no legitimate need" for the rush to gun-buying judgement.
Scariest stat: the Cheaper Than Dirt folks (headquartered in Fort Worth) moved $101,000 worth of merchandise on the day after the election, setting an all-time record and almost doubling their prior sales record set on 9-11.
My favorite quote, from a frustrated ammo buyer who has seen prices double in the past few days: "Hopefully I have enough to last until we have a new president."
My problem: how to comfortably keep that M-4 under the pillow.

"Hopefully I have enough to last until we have a new president."
Doesn't that depend entirely on the consumer himself?

I personally support everyone's right to keep and arm bears. (Well, except for grizzlies.)

what's scary about it? So people are going to have a lot of ammunition and M4's. So what? This happens every time a Democrat is elected.

Travis Bush, says:
One hopes that Obama will not focus on gun control. Bush took it upon himself to distract us from things like the war by focusing on issues that were hardly as important, such as flag burning and gay marriage. I doubt gun control is at the top of the agenda.
Maybe when we are extricated from Iraq, economically sound (or at least on the way), and have set in place a real energy policy, we will have time to quibble over the Constitution.
Besides, hard core criminals will always have access to heavy weapons and munitions. New gun control will do nothing besides prompt more of the gun buying craziness.

This is just further proof that Obama is good for the economy. He is already driving up consumer confidence in this first week.

Sounds like your typical Texan yahoo now had a convincing excuse for the wife to spend money for an assault rifle to his toy collection.

You know the only guns I have are ancient rocks that cavemen made in Dallas 6,000 years ago, and all you have to do is use a slingshot to project them..they are Texas made however...A.T, Primative Man Observer.
