Arlington man takes ninth in World Series of Poker championship
Craig Marquis, 23, beat his second highest payout by about $880,000.
The finals of the World Series of Poker tournament began on Sunday, November 9. Nine players sat down to the championship table to share a piece of the $32 million pot.
Craig Marquis, 23, of Arlington was the first player eliminated from the final table. Going up against Scott Montgomery, Marquis had a pair of sevens and turned a third seven on the flop. But Montgomery had the ace-queen and lucked out with a run of cards to give him the ace-high straight and all of Marquis' chips.
Marquis took home the default pot awarded to ninth place of $900,670. A newbie to the poker scene, Marquis' previous highest payout was $16,133 in the 2007 WSOP.
Going out in the next hand was the underdog, Kelly Kim. The last man standing (yes, they're all dudes) will win $9.15 million.
