Brothers Fried Chicken in East Dallas shuts down
The crispy fried chicken was a local foodie favorite.
DALLAS Brothers Fried Chicken on Gaston Avenue in East Dallas closed last week, confirms Steve Kazanas, who owned the beloved chicken joint with his brother Jimmy.
"We just shut that down last week," Steve said. "We'd been there for nine years. But we couldn’t make it. Most of our clientele is in the lower income brackets, and with this economy, those are the people who are hit the hardest. Our margins were thin anyway. When you see a 10-15% drop in business, you get so far behind you can't get back."
The brothers sold their North Dallas branch in December of last year. The new owner called it Krispy Fried Chicken and Burgers, and sold a similar style of fried chicken. But last week, the ownership there changed hands again and the place is now called House of Wings.
Meanwhile, the Kazanas are re-organizing their finances.
"We'd like to open another place, but we're not exactly sure what we’re going to do," he said.

Agent99 will be in mourning, and I will now not have to drive over there anymore at a moment's notice.
(I will be somewhat sad, as they had great chicken!)

and what was your decree, donna chen? i heart Babe's. i tried to eat at the branch in frisco a couple of saturdays ago - went at 6 p.m. and there was a one-hour-and-20-minute wait. people were willing to wait one hour and 20 minutes to eat there. (i was not.)

This is a damned tragedy. I was curious why the lights were off last night when I passed by. I used to visit that place every couple of weeks for my fix. Most of my ellum neighbors liked the place as well. Hopefully the Kazanas will relocate down to ellum, as we could use a chicken place in the neighborhood.

Sad news indeed. That Brothers fried chicken was "some good business" -- very unfortunate that business wasn't so good. Hope they make a comeback!

Teresa- when is Babe's coming to East Dallas?

R-Kelly, depending on where you're at in east Dallas, doesn't seem like it'd be a terribly far drive to an existing franchise.
There's a <a href="http://www.babeschicken.com/Babes-Chicken-Dinner-House-Garland.html">Garland loc</a> at Belt Line & N. Garland Ave. Plus, there's a <a href="http://www.babeschicken.com/bubbas-dallas.html">Bubba's</a> (same owners) on Hillcrest just north of Lover's Lane.
