George Steel, the new general director of The Dallas Opera, will be the guest speaker for Texas Woman’s University’s third annual Music Scholarship Banquet. The banquet will begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18 in Hubbard Hall on TWU’s Denton campus. The cost of the dinner is $30 per person, which includes dinner.
Mr. Steel became general director of the The Dallas Opera on Oct. 1 of this year. He previously served as executive director of Columbia University’s Miller Theatre, where he earned a reputation for innovative programming and audience building. He received the 2004-05 ASCAP-Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, and was named by New York magazine as one of the most influential people in New York in 2006.
Proceeds from the event will go toward TWU music scholarships, which are awarded on a competitive basis. For more information, call (940) 898-2500.
