Dallas Public Library hosting competition for young poets
A total of 60 finalists will be selected, and the winners will be honored at a ceremony in April at the Central Library.
DALLAS Young poets in grades 2 through 12 and who live in the City of Dallas or attend a Dallas school are encouraged to enter the Dallas Public Library's 13th Annual Express Yourself! Youth Poetry Competition. The competition will continue through Jan. 9, 2009.
Students may submit their original work in English or Spanish. Entries cannot be copied from any source, including books, magazines, textbooks, lyrics, or Internet sources.
· A single poem must be submitted on the back of an entry form.
· Both student and a parent/legal guardian/teacher or librarian must sign the entry form.
· Students can enter as many poems as desired.
Entry forms are available at all Dallas Public Libraries or online. A total of 60 finalists will be selected from several age categories, and the winners will be honored at a special award ceremony in April at the Central Library. The 60 winning poems will be published in a bound ExpressYourself! Youth Poetry Finalists Anthology. The competition is funded in part by the Joe M. and Doris Russell Dealey Fund of the Dallas Foundation, the Dallas Public Library and Friends of the Dallas Public Library, Inc.
