Menu at new Dallas restaurant Neighborhood Services is unveiled

Not since the restoration of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan has there been an unveiling this powerful or significant.

— Finally, at long last, be still my beating heart, it's the unveiling of the menu at Neighborhood Services, the new restaurant on Lovers Lane in Dallas from chef Nick Badovinus. Crack(ed) reporter Nancy N. at D Magazine not only got the menu, she learned how to download it onto a PDF file, a feat for which foodies in Dallas are surely grateful.

These guys would undoubtedly love to dine at Neighborhood Services.

Is it an exaggeration to say that, not since the restoration of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan has there been an unveiling this powerful or significant? I don't think so.

Note the more rudimentary cut-and-paste action below:

Starters include a "Tortilla Soup Tribute" (not just a tortilla soup?), mussels, fried little asparagus, Berkshire bacon & over EZ egg, chicken wings with burnt honey mustard dip, BBQ spiced Niman ranch brisket meatballs, crab dip, and ricotta & lobster fritters.

Entrees include a Niman chuck & brisket burger, pan-fried chicken, fish & chips, scallops, spareribs, a short rib chop, salmon, halibut, pork porterhouse, and rib eye steak. Entree prices run from $15 to $29 (for the rib eye, which is "boned and tied" and served with caramelized onions).

An even better read is the bar menu, with drink names such as "A Long, Hot & Dusty Day" and "Cock of the Walk, Baby" (that one has Leblon Cachaca, muddled lime, "raw sugar simple", and Cock n Bull ginger beer). The martini is called a "salad" and has house-pickled asparagus & green beans, green tomato, and blue-stuffed olive.

The restaurant opened during the last week of October.

I wonder if any of the Bay Area restaurants that served as Badovinus's inspiration are selling asparagus in November.
