Best Bites: Dining out in Dallas-Fort Worth November 14

7

— Did someone send out a message saying that Dallas needs more high-end bowling alleys with adjoining restaurants? The area is about to get three within the next couple of months.

Splitsville Luxury Lanes & Dinner Lounge is a Tampa-spawned concept that claims to polish up the usual bowling alley with a contemporary design, billiards tables, and a restaurant-bar that serves pizzas, sushi, sliders, and quesadillas. The lanes are arranged less symmetrically, and there are multiple bars throughout. In addition to Tampa, there's one in Miami and now they're opening outlets in Texas, with the first set to open at Arlington Highlands, and another coming to Park Lane in 2009.

On the other side of town, Shenaniganz opens in Rockwall in December, with 24 lanes of "plush upscale" bowling, including eight lanes set side for private VIP bowling. This place is more of an entertainment center than a mere bowling alley, with two-story Lazer tag, an indoor rock climbing wall, Go-Karts, gaming arcade, sports bar, and martini lounge. The restaurant is called Rozie’s Bar & Grill and serves lunch, dinner and late-night dining.

Another Byte is reminiscent of the Garden Cafe in that it's a restaurant business located in an area that's primarily residential. Owners Stephen and Marukh Hall first opened Hall's Landscape, then started serving coffee on weekends, then turned the place into a full-blown place. They're open Tuesday-Sunday for lunch and dinner, and now have a chef on board, too, Patrick Gay, who specializes in comfort food such as smothered pork chop and mashed potatoes.

I think this concept will be great! "Steeeaarike!", bowling has always been fun. Beer and bowling! I am glad to read of a new place coming to the Rockwall area, many people do not know how much it has grown/been developed on Lake Ray Hubbard. Restaurants on the water, dinner cruises, even a steakhouse that will send a boat to your hotel to ferry you to thier restaurant for dinner. And so many new boats on the water, kite surfers and fun. Thank God it is NOT like Lake Lewisville.

You know? Shenaniganz 'could', in theory, use the old Bennigan's theme song melody in their advertisements. :-D

I don't think this would be a place where the Dude would hang out.

BongoFury says:

Wasn't 'Shenaniganz' the name of the restaurant Jennifer Aniston worked at in 'Office Space'?
