Texas DPS cancels plans for random checkpoints
In the face of opposition from state lawmakers, the Texas Department of Public Safety has cancelled plans to set up drivers license checkpoints on state highways.
Seems there were suspicions that the stop-and-check stations would be used to look for illegal immigrants - a charge which DPS officials deny.
There was no comment on the question of whether the checkpoints might also have been used to canvas for Grey Poupon, probably because the question was never actually raised.
