Dysfunctional D Magazine blogs place Dallas media in paralysis
DALLAS All of the blogs related to the D Magazine empire are down and have been all weekend, a situation that is flummoxing Dallas media and other people without lives.
Instead of telling readers what Tim and Adam and Eric are doing, FrontBurner, real estate blog DallasDirt, foodie-themed SideDish, and Park Cities People's Overheard, all say "Hello World!!"
ShopTalk Fashion & Beauty Blog and D Home offer some clue with their identical, more detailed messages: "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ':' in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\dhomeblog\wp-content\themes\default\index.php on line 6".
An informal conversation with a staffer implied that the sites would be down until Tuesday.

How long has that Rag been out, since.. 1973, man... it has had a long play in the City of Sport's fan's.... Car Culture Consumer's, and Cafe Food King's.. then again it has coverd a lot of ground, but..all big american citie's have a formula D. Type or O Magazine, and with the present economic trend,... they need to funk more then fashion up beside, the hype is over....until then D.Reader for over 25 years..A.T.

D layed a bunch of people off on Friday and required all remaining staff to take pay cuts. Wick, being the arrogant bastard he is, couldn't take the criticism from the public and thus had his web guys pull down all of the magazine's blogs. The man loves to criticize the other media outlets in this town, especially the DMN and the rest of the newspaper industry, which he declares to be dead about twice a week. At least those institutions are upfront about the difficulties they're facing. Wick hides his behind his own ego.

Wick is a real piece of work, he doesnt seem to understand his rag doesnt make the impact a New Yorker or NYT magazine would, as they practice things called "journalism" and "Writing" something the folks at D are unable to wrap their heads around due to the fact its nothing more than an ad-trade publication for his rich friends and associates. Thats how they got Tim Rogers in the first place ;)

D fagazine has always been a piece of garbage. There are more ads than stories, plus an unhealthy dose of "upscale", which is enough to make one gag.

D is old Catholic school boy net.(In love with themselves they are!) All the "Best Ofs" are paid for advertisment.Low on substance and high on hype.

They're back with an explanation:
http://frontburner.dmagazine.com/2008...
In addition to the layoffs and pay cuts, they're closing Lake Highlands People, Lakewood People, and West Plano People.
Whatever you may think of the magazine, it always sucks when people have to go through something like this: Some sensitivity, please.
And I'll add that without D, there would be no Pegasus News. That's where I learned much of my trade -- plus, they were an early investor in Pegasus News.

Too many ads, vacuous content, not representative of the entire city..glad those are the things you didn't take with you, Mike. And yes, it sucks losing your job. Hope all works out for those folks.

I'm sorry to learn about this. I hope that the loss of the newspapers will mean more inclusion of those areas in D.
Good luck to those who have lost their jobs.

Chris Kidd, says:
They're a victim of their own mismanagment and delusions of grandeur. Not everyone in Dallas wants to hear about their picks for top cosmetic dentists or boob job specialists. People are concerned about how this city runs and stalls. When they do try to be journalists, they screw that up as well (see: recent DISD story). I say wick and the gang should go totally web-based and pair down to a every-other month pub, six issues a year with more emphasis on Dallas (non-park cities)issues and articles.
On a side note: Pegasus News does a decent mix of real stories, fluff and the occasional press release. Guys, as an aside, less press releases and more original articles would be nice, heck, id be even willing to write for ya....

D Magazine problems, I saw it coming. Times have changed, Dallas has changed, D Magazine did not keep up with this trend, they just kept up the old school crap. Same old stories, and the attitude that the writers were "in the scene" of Dallas and on top of the who's who in Dallas. They were 8-10 years ago and before then as well, but not the last few years. PEGASUS NEWS is really THE new trend-setter in my opinion.

Hate to see that happen. Their coverage could genuinely put an arts event or a charity on the regional map. Hate them if you must, but they had broad reach through the moneyed and cultured in town. It's a sad day for the old arts in town.

Dont hate them Rice, just got real bored with the Super People concept for 12 years, kind of like Paper City, they all have crunch bar's layed out on their desk, Pink one's I heard over at Oak Lawn...Just pic a bar and the small straw leave's, While D did a great job, like the recent Month on Jewish History in Dallas, may be the last couple of issue's,... D has been in Mega Empire for 7 good years with fashion, Interiors, Wedding's and Developer's and Homes having 9 outlet rags...
We are suppost to Observe the end's and out's of this Era,... and this D event may be one of them, beside's Andy Hansen, long time photo hound passed away recent, and he shot all of the Pro Dallas Socity as D would label it in Grand....A/T,... D. Observer.
