Irving tree-lighting ceremony set for Dec. 6

2

None dare call it a Christmas Tree, but whatever you call it, it's about to get all lit up for the holidays.

If you live anywhere near Irving City Hall (825 W. Irving Blvd.), don't be alarmed if you hear fireworks going off on the evening of Dec. 6 and notice a sudden twinkling glow on the horizon.

"Good grief."

"Good grief."

It's the Holiday Extravaganza and Tree Lighting Ceremony, a public celebration of the holiday that used to be referred to just as Christmas but must now perforce be genericized as simply "holiday" - even though such traditions as the lighting of the tree are specifically Christmas-related.

But I digress.

The open-to-the-public, oh-so-p.c. event kicks off at 4 p.m. with a parade through the Heritage District, followed (at 6 p.m.) by the lighting of the "holiday" tree on the grounds of City Hall.

There will be "holiday" music provided by the Irving Symphonic Band, performances by local dance groups, outdoor games (?), a petting zoo, pony rides and - a "holiday" favorite - food. Capping off the evening will be a fireworks display.

Call 972-721-2501 for further information.

I am betting the INS will be there checking IDs. After all, you shouldn't be able to celebrate Christmas in the US without being a citizen.
