UPDATED: Bat-wielding man steals own cat from Dallas shelter

8

To be fair, the cat did bear a striking resemblance to this Hello Kitty figurine.

To be fair, the cat did bear a striking resemblance to this Hello Kitty figurine.

A man who was upset that he had to pay $132 to get his own cat back stormed into the Dallas Animal Shelter Monday morning and took the cat while holding off employees with a bat. The cat had been brought to the shelter by someone who thought it was a stray.

Of course, he wasn't exactly the most covert cat thief, as he signed the shelter's guestbook before stealing his cat. Methinks the man is in police custody right ... about .... now.

UPDATE: So, according to the article accompanying the video Teresa referenced, the man's name is Roger Booth, he has cancer, and he's already turned himself into the police, who declined to arrest him, though Booth will go before a judge later this week.

the WFAA <a href="http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/wfaa/latestnews/stories/wfaa081118_mo_catrescue.1c849956c.html">video</a> of this cat owner is priceless

Chris Kidd, says:

First, the neighbor who turned in the cat should've checked with the owner, which would've prevented this whole issue from the start.

Second, ya gotta love a crazy person with a bat, they make great news in these down economic times. Maybe he should go after the neighbor with the bat ;)

So what, people just pick up random cats off the street and take them to shelters?

Also, I applaud (potentially) terminally ill people going vigilante.

Awww - My hero!

I wonder if they would drop the charges if someone paid the shelter his fee?

Jason Rice, says:

Pavel, there's also the interesting contrapositive that people going vigilante can in some cases become terminal.

Does that still get kudos or is it really order dependent?
