Larry Throm selected to be CFO of Dallas ISD

Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa has selected Larry Throm, who has served as Chief Financial Officer of the Austin Independent School District for the past 10 years, to be the Executive Chief Financial Officer of the Dallas Independent School District.

Hinojosa called Throm one of the “state’s premier authorities on school finance.” Throm has been thoroughly briefed on the financial and systemic challenges facing the district and has already provided valuable advice on several critical matters. He is expected to officially begin work in Dallas in January.

Throm will oversee a reorganized financial structure at Dallas ISD. Beginning in January, all critical control functions will report to Throm, including finance, information technology and human resources. Throm’s selection and this reorganization are the first two concrete steps taken to protect the future financial integrity of the district.

“Most importantly, Larry Throm knows when to say yes and how to say no when faced with difficult financial decisions,” Hinojosa said. “He comes highly recommended by school finance authorities in Texas while top-level Texas Education Agency administrators confirm his abilities as well. He will be a ‘game-changer’ for Dallas ISD. He comes with excellent credentials and a solid reputation for putting in place effective financial systems and controls in Austin and other districts.”

Throm’s contract will run through June 2010, and he will report directly to the superintendent. The Board of Trustees were asked to confirm his salary at Wednesday’s meeting.
