Shinsei Restaurant on Inwood in Dallas expands into space next door

DALLAS Lynae Fearing and Tracy Rathbun, co-owners and creators of Shinsei, announced today their commitment to Shinsei’s continued success by expanding into the building adjacent to the current restaurant. The expansion increases the restaurant’s size and adds a large bar and lounge area, private dining room and additional seating. Maintaining Shinsei’s clean, yet comfortable design, the new space will incorporate the same concept, but with a more luxurious spin, giving guests a whole new Shinsei to experience.
The expansion is reflective of Fearing and Rathbun’s desire to provide their guests with the best dining experience possible. When Shinsei opened in June of 2006, the goal was to provide a comfortable, yet sophisticated, neighborhood gathering place. Now, two and a half years later, Fearing and Rathbun realized the hugely successful Shinsei had more to offer its guests.
“We have been so fortunate to have gone beyond our expectations, in regards to our restaurant. We have however realized some additional needs, and that was to have a space for private dinners and group meetings. We feel our neighborhood is also in need of a special place to have late night drinks and a place to connect and relax with friends. We want to be the ones to provide this environment – a place that is beautiful, comfortable and friendly,” said co-owner Lynae Fearing.
“We are so excited about the expansion of Shinsei! The new lounge and private dining room will give Shinsei the flexibility to offer our guests an intimate private dining experience and still maintain the energy and excitement of our current space,” said Tracy Rathbun, co-owner of Shinsei.
Scheduled for completion the beginning of December 2008, the new addition is under the creative direction of Greg O’Neal of Philosophy Design and architect, Jessica Stewart – the same duo behind Shinsei’s original space.
“In this second phase of Shinsei, we have added a more luxurious spin on the original concept,” said Greg O’Neal of Philosophy Design. “It will have that clean yet comfortable design, but it will be kicked up a notch.”
The adjacent space is undergoing a complete transformation into a serene, yet modern lounge, incorporating the original color palate of dark browns and muted greens with new touches of luxe gold metals and hardware combined with rich textures. A forest of gold resin stools designed to look like tree stumps are scattered throughout the lounge and serve as tables and seating. Sliding doors of frosted acrylic and wood panels provide privacy in the lounge and private dining room while still allowing guests to hear the buzz of the restaurant. Floor to ceiling curtains of chocolate brown mohair add to the lush feel of both the private dining room, with seating for up to twenty, and the private lounge area. A tufted chocolate brown liquid-leather banquet allows for additional dining in the lounge and acts as a focal point in the room. Gold resin prayer bowls installed atop a bronze tinted mirror above the banquet will mimic the same free-form design of the lily pads in the current space.
Combined with the original space, the addition of the lounge and private dining room gives Shinsei patrons added dining options from a causal meal at the sushi bar, to a romantic date in the lounge, to a celebratory birthday dinner in the private dining room.
