Theater Spotlight of the Week: Bruce DuBose
Interview with Bruce DuBose, Director of Eurydice
Undermain Theatre is known for staging alternative theatre for the DFW community. This week, they are previewing and opening Eurydice which re-imagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Thus, I got a chance to talk to director Bruce DuBose for this week's feature.
We being by discussing his career, how he became part of the Dallas theatre scene, and what attracted him to Undermain. Since he has been involved with the organization for many years, I ask what attributes to Undermain's success and what niche it fills for the DFW audience.

He talks about why Eurydice was chosen for this season and what got him to direct it. Since it is a retelling of a myth, I ask what makes this new version contemporary and what the audience can expect. I also ask if he staged the piece using Greek elements or went totally contemporary.
As always, I ask what he wants the audience to walk away talking/thinking about, and he ends the interview by applauding his cast of actors.
Eurydice previews until November 21 and the officially opens Saturday, November 22. Purchase tickets online or by calling 214-747-5515.

Classic Undermain. The flowing language and movement delivered by a superb cast. Theatre regulars will recognize all the actors from previous Undermain shows, Shakespeare Dallas, Kitchen Dog, FIT, etc. Saw a preview and plan to experience it again.

First time visiting Undermain after moving from California. Heard great things about the group, but was disappointed in Eurydice. Awkward staging, bad audience seating arrangement, acting a bit too heavy. It had it's moments, but not as powerful as it should have been. Hopefully Dallas theatergoers have high expectations. Not every production can be a hit, so I'm sure I'll try out Undermain again before drawing definite conclusions.
