Grapevine’s British Emporium hosts big(ish) Dr. Who event this Sunday

On Sunday, Nov. 23 from 12 noon 'til 4 p.m., the British Emporium in Grapevine will celebrate the 45th anniversary of Dr. Who.

You know, the television show involving that famous guy on first base? (O.K., not really.)

Listed in the Guinness World Records as the "longest running science fiction television show in the world" (keeping in mind that this Guinness outfit is a British concern), the show (which actually involves a time-traveling character with perpetually bad hair who pops into his TARDIS - you'll excuse the expression - to journey 'round about the continuum getting into and thence solving problems) has been running on and off since 1963 when it premiered on BBC. At that time, The Doctor was played by William Hartnell; since then, there have been nine other actors portraying the redoubtable Time Lord, including everybody you can think of except for William Shatner - and we're not entirely sure he won't take up the role after his stint on Boston Legal ends after this season.

Be all that as it may (and it may well be), The British Emporium will serve a complimentary Time Lord's Tea & Biscuits to all those who accept their open invitation to show up. Furthermore, fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite character from the series for a chance at winning an unspecified prize.

There will be screenings of Dr. Who episodes all day long, with a schedule of various special events to include Dalek racing (at 1 p.m.), a quiz (at 2) and the costume competition (at 3).

While there, you may of course browse the shop for related (as well as entirely unrelated) collectibles, such as Dr. Who artwork produced by Ben Glendenning and Kat Laurange.
