Coast Global Seafood opens at Shops at Legacy in Plano
Restaurant has fish on the menu and aquatic touches in the decor.
Coast Global Seafood opening party 11-19-08
Coast Global Seafood, a new restaurant from the Culinaire Group that also owns Nicola, had a pre-opening on Wednesday November 19 to show off its aquatic motif, seafood-centric menu, and ringside view of the fountain outside in this second phase of the Shops at Legacy in Plano.
The restaurant's team includes Michael Cox, who was previously at Central Market and before that at Star Canyon with chef Stephan Pyles; Michael Bratcher, who most recently was partnered with chef Blaine Staniford at Fuse and Scene; and pastry chef Katherine Clapner, who was previously at Stephan Pyles.
Approximately 200 guests mingled and got their wine glasses refilled promptly, as staffers roamed with full bottles and trays of snacks such as chopped tuna on toast, halibut with lentils, fried shrimp, and mini-cups of tortilla soup.
While you might expect a free feed would draw a crowd, what was unexpected about this Wednesday night was the number of customers at the two restaurants located along the same strip (Lone Star Drive). Gordon Biersch Brewery had a decent number of diners inside and RA Sushi was positively hopping, with a lively crowd both inside and on the patio. This is the new phase of the Shops, across Legacy to the north, and until a short time ago, it was a dead zone over there. But the Shops at Legacy appears to have enduring appeal, and there are already signs up for both a Toulouse and a Cubanita coming soon.

I never knew so many people lived in Plano. The Shops at Legacy is always busy. What did everyone do before this was built?

This restaurant has a long way to go to live up to its expectations. My wife and I recently dined here and were very underwhelmed with the service. The young waitstaff was very intrusive and unprofessional--especially the expeditor and waiter playing slap and tickle in the dining room. I could list a dozen examples of how the front of house and waitstaff detracted from our dinner. But what will most likely keep us from returning occured when we commented to the waiter that we found our ahi tuna appetizer to be over seasoned with salt and lemon--the waiter agreed with us and then did nothing to remedy the dish.
Our entrees were excellent--but the service will keep us away.
