Irving-based Fluor acquires engineering companies in Belgium and Spain
IRVING Fluor Corporation announced today that it recently acquired two private engineering companies in Europe. The acquisitions include UNEC Engineering N.V. of Antwerp, Belgium, and Europea de Ingenieria y Asesoramiento (E.I.A.) of Tarragona, Spain. Both companies will become part of the European operations of Fluor’s Global Services business group. Financial details for these transactions were not disclosed.
UNEC has approximately 150 employees and focuses on small capital projects and plant engineering work. The company’s current client base includes many well-known energy, chemical and industrial companies with operations near Antwerp’s port region. Nearby in The Netherlands, Fluor has offices in Bergen op Zoom and Rotterdam providing the same EPCM services in those industrially dense areas.
E.I.A. and its management team have strong relationships with a number of important clients in Tarragona. The 100-person company specializes in plant modifications, engineering and small capital projects.
“These industrial regions in Belgium and Spain have significant numbers of companies with production facilities nearby,” said Kirk Grimes, president of Fluor Corporation’s Global Services business group. “While Fluor maintains good relationships with several of these clients across the globe, the strong track records of E.I.A. and UNEC will help us provide greater value to our clients locally.”
“We welcome the UNEC and E.I.A. employees who recently joined our company and look forward to pursuing exciting opportunities together,” said Taco de Haan, vice president of Fluor Corporation’s Global Services business group. “This is an excellent opportunity to expand our client relationships into these regions and to increase our small capital project services in Belgium and Spain on a sustainable and local basis.”
