Fire nearly threatens Dallas billionaire Harold Simmons’ estate in California
DALLAS The Montecito, Calif. home of Dallas billionaire Harold and Annette Simmons almost burned. A fire was sweeping through the neighborhood so they had to run out with just the shirts on their backs and cocktails in their hands. The fire miraculously went around the properties on their 24-acre estate on both sides. The fire knows better than to mess with a billionaire from Texas.
The MSN story has some fascinating details such as the fact that "their good friend Rob Lowe was there waiting to make sure they were okay" and offered them lodging at a beach home he owns nearby; and that their other good friend Oprah Winfrey inquired about the Simmons on her show whilst talking to Rob Lowe on the phone.
I was sortof hoping that the moral of this story would be that bad things happen to rich people, too, except that nothing bad happened here. Their house avoided getting burned down and Oprah name-dropped them on TV. It appears that the worst thing that happened to them is that they got embers in their hair. Sigh.
