Fort Worth ISD recognized students for academic excellence
Hundreds of Fort Worth ISD high school students will receive their Academic Sweatshirts at a District-wide event on Tuesday, December 2nd. During the 19th annual academic recognition event 687 high school juniors will receive an Academic Sweatshirt. That’s ninety-two more sweatshirts than were awarded last year!
Underwritten by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, the Academic Sweatshirt program recognizes “Excellence in Education” by students who through the end of their 10th grade year have maintained a 3.8 grade point average or better. The sweatshirts are embroidered with each student’s initials, the initials of their school and an academic banner.
“The event is a great opportunity for families to come and show their support for the students,” says Jannis Dilworth, director of FWISD Secondary School Leadership. “It’s a great way for the community to recognize their hard work and dedication.”
This year’s ceremony will take place at Southwest High School. There will be a reception in the school cafeteria prior to the event for students and their guests. Dr. Molly Weinburgh, Director of the Andrews Institute of Math, Science and Technology Education at Texas Christian University, will deliver the keynote address.
