Students at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Texas Southern University may be rivals on the football field, but they are on the same team when it comes to their desire to give back to the Dallas community.

Students, cheerleaders and band members from both teams will arrive in Dallas on Friday. They will visit the Dallas Homeless Assistance Center “The Bridge” where they will sing and read to homeless residents and donate 100 blankets to the facility. The Homeless Assistance Center will also receive 100 free tickets to the Dallas Lone Star Classic presented by Sam’s Club on Saturday. The football players and cheerleaders will visit Children’s Medical Center, where they will hand out gifts and books, do crafts with the children and sign autographs.

“When the schools selected Dallas as their location to play, we appreciated the economic impact they were bringing to Dallas but to also learn their interest in giving back to the community was impressive; they didn’t want to come here and just play a football game,” said Dallas City Councilmember Pauline Medrano. “They wanted to make a difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate.”
