Theater Spotlight of the Week: Sue Roberts-Birch

Interview with Director of the world premiere of Little Red Riding Hood with Theatre Britain.

Interview with Sue Roberts-Birch, Director of Little Red Riding Hood

Sue Roberts-Birch is one of the founders of Theatre Britain, which is world premiering Little Red Riding Hood that she is also directing. Written by other founding producer, Jackie Mellor-Guin, the play is a "panto" and the company's most popular type of show. The perfect week to feature director/founder Roberts-Birch who you may have guessed, has an amazing British accent.

I begin the interview by asking about her arrival in Dallas and how she formed Theatre Britain. She talks about the hiatus the company incurred for a few years, why that happened, and how they were able to comeback.

She talks about the importance of the "panto" as part of their season and what makes it so popular. She defines the elements of the "panto" and discusses its appeal to both kids and adults.

Little Red Riding Hood is a new panto, and I ask what makes this version of the story so fresh since it is the world premiere. She also elaborates on what she wants the audience to walk away with.

Since Theatre Britain has performed full seasons in the past, I ask if the company has future plans to expand into doing more shows again than just the panto. Luckily, Sue has some breaking news about an upcoming production.

In Little Red Riding Hood, meet Ulf and her sidekicks, Gnasher and Slasher, three of the wiliest wolves this side of Plano. They are very, very hungry and they have tracked down the perfect lunch – Little Ruby Red Riding Hood and her Granny! But will their plan be thwarted by Charlie The Chopper and Ruby’s mum, Mother Hood? The show runs from November 29 - December 21 and you can call 972-490-4202 for reservations.
