Granada schedules Kevin Costner & Modern West gig for Feb. 6, 2009
Yeah, we're talking about THAT Kevin Costner, who (it turns out) both sings and plays guitar.
Might sound like a novelty act, given the high-profile frontman and all, but I'm listening to Kevin Costner & Modern West's debut album even as I write this, and - surprise! - it ain't half bad. (Laid-back, folksy, mildly-rockin' Americana, if I had to put a label on it.) This Costner kid can actually carry a tune, and (apparently) strum a decent (if unremarkable) guitar.
There hasn't been a crossover opportunity like this in my bailiwick since Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters hit town. ("Town" in this instance being Austin.) From what I've been reading, Costner's been doing this music thing (on some sort of basis) since before his star gained Hollywood ascendancy - so it's not some sudden affectation.
Anywho, the Granada will host Kevin Costner & Modern West on Feb. 6, 2009, and you can find out more about it on their website (or even buy tickets).
Tom Petty: watch your rearview.
